Chinese Education and Technology Articles

I think it is interesting that China has taken steps to limit homework and outside tutoring. I only wonder how well it will work with the culture of shadow education that has been built in Asian countries. How else will China change its education system to reflect these new laws?     I feel that punishing parents for a child's bad behavior is going to backfire in a big way. Instead of raising productive citizens, I foresee parents becoming even more strict and oppressive toward their children. The cultural phenomenon of family honor is now being put into law and raising the stakes from social embarrassment to criminal punishment if you dishonor your family.     The article about problems with technology brought up many valid points. I think that technology is a double-edged sword. It is being pushed into classrooms as something that is required to be used, but it is not always needed for everything. Technology should enhance the learnin...

Google Classroom

I like the ease of Google classroom and how it is connected to all of the other google apps. However, I tend to use microsoft more so learning how to use googles versions of those is a learning curve for me. I think that I could see myself using this app for upper grades more than the lower grades. In 4th and up, I believe GC is a great way for them to start being more responsible for their own work and keeping track of their assignments. I would actually have to see how the younger grades interact with GC before I use it, but I think for them it would be more for the parents than the students. I also love GC for days that students are absent or they are out for activities. They cant use the excuse that they didn't have their assignment becaude its right there in GC for them to access from anywhere.

Week of August 15th

One Simple Question What struck me the most about this video was the reactions the parents had to watch their children’s answers. It appeared that most of them didn’t know how much time their kids were spending with technology. I think that there should be a balance between the time spent outside and with technology. I think another interesting question to ask the adults would be what they do for fun now. I think most of their answers might include technology as well.  In my childhood, I lived out in the middle of nowhere and my parents worked all day, so I didn’t get to go outside and play with friends during the summer like everybody else did. However, I didn’t spend all day on the computer as my little brother did. I read so many books and would beg my father when he got home from work to take me to go get more books. When I spent time with my cousins, we were told to go play whether it was outside on the ranch or in their playroom. My littlest cousins have been beggi...
